Portraits of my journey as a mother

Self Portraits of my journey as a Mother The process of creating another human being truly is a miracle. Today, a few years older and with child in tow, I got in front of the camera again, to document my own journey. Contrary to these photos, I am not someone who manages to embrace pregnancy¬†particularly…

Maria’s Baby Belly Photos

Maria’s Baby Belly Photos

Meet Maria. She is due on the 2nd of November. She has the most gorgeous bump.

The session consisted of an hour in my studio, and an hour outside on location. The weather however, has been terrible so I had to postpone the outside bit until later in the week.

This is my favourite type of Maternity Shoot. Simple & effective. Showing off the baby belly in an artistic way, whilst capturing emotion. I took a similar self portrait of myself when i was pregnant, and it goes very well with the one I took of Evie, and myself when she was just a few days old.

It is for this reason that I am offering a 2 for 1 on Baby belly photos / Newborn Shoots. A standard portrait sitting is $325, The selected images (at least 30 high resolution) will be presented to you on a disc to do with as you wish.

It is a very special time, and flies by in a second. Also it can be a very expensive time, so hopefully this lessens the blow! I would say that my style of Baby Belly Photos / Newborn photography is actually quite different from most photographers specialising in this area anyway. At the end of the day, it just comes down to personal choice.

Natural Baby Photos of Emmanuel

I wanted to do a shoot which involved totally natural baby photos. No posing, no direction. Just simply documenting. A baby, his mother, their home.

My reason for this… Everyone wants baby pictures. And although super cute, they are set up and contrived. I want real life.

So I spent a couple of hours with Emmanuel & Emma. Simply 0bserving and letting them go about their day to day life. This really is such a special time, that passes so quickly, it is worth capturing those first expressions of individuality.

When you think about it, it seems so strange that the background of a kitchen, or a lounge full of toys could be considered inappropriate or ‘less clean’ than a backdrop or a wall. But really, why not be just how it is? After all, is this not the point of baby photos? To document those memories?

Don’t get me wrong. I love portraits on a background, using creative lighting. But let us remember the point of being individuals. Lets involve the things which make us different. Taste, culture, location. The list is endless. So here is a cheers to keepin it real.

2 hour sessions are just $325. This can be all natural, all set up, or we can mix it up a bit. The price includes 30 hi-res images on a disc and I will also throw in a flush mounted brag book

Family Photography of Baby Manny

Family Photography of Baby Manny

Family Photography is something to cherish. Especially with a little boy as adorable as Emmanuel. Manny was about 3 weeks old when i shot these. Slightly less sleepy than a younger newborn, and much harder to put in certain positions. I still got some super cute baby portraits, and of course he was happy to sleep in Mum’s arms.

This family photography was shot in my studio. I would say the black background with dramatic lighting are my signature and also favourite shots when doing newborn photography. They are always so relaxed and natural when held close to their parents. So it is possible to capture those beautiful sleepy faces.

Photographing a baby soon after birth is something to really cherish. The start of a new life, and a very exciting time for all the family. As well as photographing the baby in a studio setting, a great way to photograph them is for me to just follow you around and document you in your home for a couple of hours. This time is generally a really snuggley time with your baby, whatever kind of mundane task you might be performing. So its really good for getting lots of natural shots. Which would definitely be my preference rather than something contrived and set up.

It really is best to photograph a newborn before he or she is 2 weeks old. As this is when they sleep most of the time. However, this is generally when you want them to lie down by themselves, before you mould them into certain positions. Not so essential if you are going for more natural shots, or for shots whereby you might be holding the child.
