Weddings at Margaret River’s Secret Garden: Tropical Fairytale Vibes

Secret Garden Wedding

Weddings at Margaret River’s Secret Garden feel private, relaxed, and tucked away. The garden has a way of wrapping around you, creating a tropical, fairytale-like space that feels like you’re stepping into another world.

Located in Wilyabrup, the heart of Margaret River’s wine region, this venue is surrounded by peppermint trees, ferns, and garden paths. The mild coastal climate, with warm summers and cooling ocean breezes, is what makes this part of the region so special, producing world class Chardonnay and Cabernet often compared to Bordeaux. That same climate is also what allows gardens like this to flourish!

With landscapes like this, it’s not surprising that a hidden garden exists here! I photograph a lot of weddings across the South West, and this place still stops me every time.

Why Secret Garden Feels So Special

The Margaret River’s Secret Garden wedding venue was designed by award winning landscape architect Paul Bangay. It blends old world European garden vibes with a lush, tropical feel that’s shaped by the local climate, making it unique and unlike anywhere else in the region.

The venue features walkways covered in wisteria, big lawns, ponds, a waterfall, and huge deciduous trees that give beautiful shade in summer. In warmer months, the garden stays lush thanks to Margaret River’s unique climate and limestone rich soil.

It’s a mix you don’t see in most wedding spaces, and it’s why the garden looks like it’s been here forever!

Ceremony and Reception Locations

Ceremonies and receptions are all outdoors in the garden, so you can just roll from one moment to the next!

Garden Ceremonies

The wisteria ceremony space is one of the most striking parts of the garden. It feels like the grand entrance to an English mansion! Stone columns frame the ceremony area, with wisteria and greenery growing overhead and around you, creating a natural canopy that draws you into the magic of this space.

Twilight Terrace With Marquee Reception

The twilight terrace sits beautifully within the gardens with long tables laid out. It feels more like a refined outdoor dining room than a typical marquee setup! The clear structure lets you see the garden all around you, with trees framing the space and soft light filtering through.

Intimate Long Table Reception

If you want something more connected and communal, you can pick a long table set up among the gardens which gives the feel of a private garden dinner at a stately home. It’s relaxed and social, and guests stay close to the ceremony spot.

Packages, Catering, and Logistics

Margaret River’s Secret Garden wedding packages give you room to make the day your own!

You have exclusive use of the garden for both your ceremony and reception, with styling support available through Hire In Style and catering planned by the experienced team at Tiller Events. Well known for creating relaxed, beautifully run weddings, Tiller Events handle everything from menus to logistics, working closely with the venue and other suppliers so the day runs smoothly. And their food is seasonal, generous, and built around local produce, which tends to suit the sorts of couples who adore this unique venue!

How much does a Margaret River’s Secret Garden wedding cost?

Pricing depends on your guest numbers and how you choose to set up the day. For an accurate idea of costs, it’s best to contact the venue directly for a personalised quote based on your plans.

Capacity and Accommodations

This venue works beautifully for smaller gatherings but also accommodates larger weddings.

Margaret River’s Secret Garden wedding capacity sits at around 120 guests for seated celebrations, with room for up to 150 guests for cocktail-style setups, lawn games, or mixed seating arrangements. It’s large enough to host a great party, but still feels personal and connected rather than overwhelming.

On the day of your wedding, you get access to the Iris Garden Guesthouse for bridal prep. This is part of what makes the day feel calm and easy because you don’t need to rush in and out of the space while everyone’s getting ready.

There isn’t overnight accommodation on the property itself, but there’s an abundance of amazing places to stay in and around Margaret River! A lot of my couples rent cabins, cottages, or boutique rooms close to the venue to turn the wedding into a weekend getaway. One of my personal favourites is 8 Paddocks, luxury chalets with Highland cows, outdoor baths, and fire pits (in winter).

Wedding Photography at Secret Garden

I absolutely love capturing weddings at Margaret River’s Secret Garden. There really isn’t anything else like it in the region! The garden feels lush and almost tropical, with greenery, filtered light, and hidden corners that make it feel completely immersive. It’s a rare venue where a wedding can feel like its own little wonderland that’s private, unique, and quietly magical.
